At present, China's precision casting industry is at the forefront of production scale in the world, with a wide variety of casting products. A strong industrial foundation provides a large number of castings (billets and parts) for many industries.

In recent years, China's casting industry has entered the ranks of the world's largest casting countries, with multiple factories, large production capacity, and complete varieties. At the same time, China's casting exports have grown rapidly. From January to March this year, China's production of precision castings and cast iron castings reached 2469140 tons and 1040613 tons, respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 13.32% and 12.54%. The export of precision casting products has also evolved from simple parts to requiring complex castings. However, there is still a considerable gap compared to major casting countries such as the United States, Japan, Germany, and France.

The main reason is that China's stainless steel castings are known for being "old", "large", "black", and "thick". In China, the scrap rate of ordinary cast iron is about 10%, the scrap rate of complex high-grade cast iron is about 10%~15%, and the scrap rate of aluminum alloy die casting is about 8%~10%. At the same time, defects are mainly concentrated in surface or internal pores, sand holes, and other areas. About 80% of these defects can be remedied through repair. There are many reasons that can lead to defects. In processes such as process arrangement, material selection, casting mold design and production, and casting molding, if not scientifically and rigorously designed and implemented, it can lead to the occurrence and increase of scrap rates.

With the development of the world economy, China has become a strong casting country, and casting production must follow a development path of high quality, high efficiency, low consumption, clean and sustainable. The basic method is to develop castings from low value-added products to medium to high-end castings. This requires that the technical level of the entire casting must be improved, but the technical level of the casting is a systematic project, and it is difficult to achieve significant improvement in the short term due to the influence of actual situations. The most urgent task is to reduce the scrap rate of castings, so the benefits of casting repair have been increasingly valued by more and more enterprises, even well-known foreign-funded enterprises and large state-owned enterprises with strong technical strength adopt casting repair to make up for the shortcomings of existing casting technology. Different enterprises often adopt different methods to save defective castings due to their own situations.
